Technology meets team spirit: Elkamet apprentices develop ideas for wheelchair basketball

Our new project for apprentices and students offers hands-on experience with technology – and the chance to get involved in sport. We are working with RSV Lahn-Dill to further develop the sports wheelchair. The aim is to improve its handling and create new advertising space.

When the wheelchair basketball players from RSV Lahn-Dill whizz across the court, it is down to impressive skill – and precise technique. This is precisely where a new project at Elkamet comes in: apprentices and students are working together to further develop the sports wheelchair.

The aim is twofold: on the one hand, to improve the manoeuvrability of the wheelchair; on the other, to explore new possibilities for advertising space that are both technically sound and visually appealing.

The practical approach is particularly exciting: participants are allowed to attend RSV Lahn-Dill’s training sessions and matches, engaging directly with the professionals. This provides realistic insights into top-level sport – whilst simultaneously generating practical ideas that combine technology and sport.

The project is aimed at Elkamet apprentices and students and will launch in June 2026. It will run for around six months and offers the chance to experience the development process of an innovative product from concept to prototype.

Through this project, Elkamet combines the promotion of young talent, engineering excellence and social commitment. After all, innovation arises where technology sparks enthusiasm – and where people work together on solutions that make a difference.
