UV protection, factor 10

UV protective coatings protect the material from harmful solar radiation. The surface coating (Factor 10®) increases the weather resistance of polycarbonate tenfold and minimises yellowing caused by UV radiation.

Translucent coloured

A translucent coloured coating gives the sphere vibrant colours that allow light to shine through. This creates a fascinating visual depth.

Combination of different coatings

Translucent coloured finishes can be individually combined with matt finishes and mirror finishes.

Matt finish for indoor and outdoor use

Matt finishes offer an elegant and subtle aesthetic that diffuses light. By using matt lacquer both inside and outside the product, it gets a uniform surface reminiscent of satin-finished glass, without any distracting reflections.

Half black/white, anthracite/white for outdoor use

An opaque coloured coating on the upper part of the luminaire body prevents light from being scattered upwards. The white coating underneath ensures better light reflection inside the luminaire.

Individual colour requests on enquiry

For customers who have a very specific vision, we offer customised paint options. The colours can be individually produced according to customer requirements using colour concentrates. We work closely with our customers to realise their unique ideas.

UV surface coating

Faktor 10® - UV protective coating

High demands are placed on outdoor lighting. It should be decorative, blend harmoniously into its surroundings, provide standard-compliant lighting where it is needed, and also be functional and easy to maintain. Due to the high impact resistance and vandalism protection required for the luminaire glass, polycarbonate is often preferred over PMMA, which is less impact-resistant. However, polycarbonate tends to yellow due to UV ageing when exposed to outdoor weathering.

The additional Faktor 10® surface coating has made it possible to significantly improve the yellowing behaviour of impact-resistant polycarbonate luminaire bodies. The Faktor 10® surface coating protects polycarbonate against adverse environmental influences in the air and provides 10 times greater weather resistance.

Benefits

The additional surface coating with Faktor 10® has made it possible to significantly improve the yellowing behaviour of the impact-resistant polycarbonate luminaire bodies.
The yellowing of polycarbonate caused by UV radiation is reduced to a minimum with Factor 10®, ensuring that the polycarbonate remains crystal clear for many years.
The surface coating (Factor 10®) protects polycarbonate against adverse environmental influences in the air and provides 10 times greater weather resistance.
The improved self-cleaning effect extends the reliable maintenance intervals.

Factor 10® coating

  • Coating thickness between 6 and 12 μm
  • Properties Very good resistance to ageing, weathering and light
  • Resistant See chemical resistance of PC. Application and environmental conditions must be taken into account
  • Conditionally resistant Alcohols (conc.)
  • Not resistant Solvents such as esters, ketones, aromatics, kitchen vapours
  • Temperature resistance Continuous operating temperature = 90 °C; briefly up to 140 °C. From approx. 80 °C, the coating exhibits thermoplastic behaviour
