The support rails – also known as the water tank profile – is the connecting element between the vehicle windshield and the water tank cover. Elkamet retaining rails are developed in collaboration with automobile and glass manufacturers to fit each vehicle windshield individually.
In collaboration with the automotive and window industries, Elkamet develops window surrounds in various materials and degrees of hardness that compensate for tolerances and gaps between the window and the car body. The window surrounds also help to reduce wind noise.
The profiles can also contribute to a seamless transition between different types of windows, such as from the windshield to the sunroof.
Sunroof frames closed on four sides are manufactured using a combination of extrusion and injection molding processes. This combination of processes enables the production of frames for sunroofs, which are becoming increasingly larger in size. This is a flexible and cost-effective alternative to overmolding large-format panes.
These profiles compensate for tolerances and gaps between the window and the bodywork – similar to window surrounds. Elkamet gap covers also prevent wind noise.
