The support rail – also known as the water tank profile – is the connecting element between the vehicle windscreen and the water tank cover. Elkamet retaining rails are developed in collaboration with automobile and glass manufacturers to fit each vehicle windscreen individually. We also develop recommendations for adjacent components to ensure that the system functions perfectly.
A fundamental distinction is made between flush profiles and wrap-around profiles.
The flush system patented by Elkamet is being used in more and more vehicles worldwide. It enables a cost-effective, simple, and secure flush transition between the lower edge of the window and the water tank cover. This solution is now known in the industry as the “Elkamet System.”
Surrounding profiles, or U-profiles for short, are attached to the lower edge of the windscreen. Thanks to the special profile geometry, a constant clamping force is exerted, ensuring a permanent connection to the windscreen. In some cases, the profiles are additionally secured by gluing.
PU foam with excellent properties can be applied precisely to our plastic products and guarantees optimum sealing performance with minimal installation forces. Thanks to its low hardness of 40 to 45 Shore-00, minimal compression forces are achieved while at the same time ensuring reliable sealing against various media. The process enables easy installation without compromising the sealing function.
Conventional flush profiles are shipped with a protective transport strip. This protects the area that connects to the cistern. With the edging-free flush profile, the unique design eliminates the need for an edging strip. This simplifies the use of our profiles throughout the production process. Eliminating the edging component saves resources, which has a positive impact on the CO2 footprint of the respective vehicles.
