Polymer materials - Containers for vehicles

Plastic is the basis of all Elkamet products. That is why we take a close look at the materials in order to understand them, improve them, and adapt them specifically for special applications. We do this both in our own research and development department and in close cooperation with leading universities and external testing institutions. As a result of intensive R&D activities, Elkamet can offer you a wide range of materials for rotational molding.

We can provide you with individual advice on selecting the technically and economically optimal material for your project, taking your specific requirements into account. On request, we will be happy to send you technical data sheets for the materials that are suitable for your application.

Plastic vs. steel containers

Advantages of plastic containers

Do you use steel tanks? Have you ever thought about replacing them with plastic tanks? Let us convince you of the added value that plastic tanks offer. We have decades of experience in advising customers who have made the switch from steel to plastic with us. We advise you with our expertise from concept planning and design to series production.

Complex geometries are possible, enabling optimum use of installation space at attractive costs
No corrosion problems or fatigue of welded joints
Use of HVO fuels
Wall thickness adjustments according to your specifications can be implemented without tool changes.
Lower weight, resulting in easier handling during assembly and lower transport costs
No permanent deformation of plastic containers when the tank is impacted
A wide range of integrated elements allow for expansion without additional parts – reducing costs.
Depending on size and geometry, plastic containers are more cost-effective than steel containers.
Our materials

The right material for every product

Polyamide 6 (PA 6)

Versatile polyamide 6 impresses with its high strength, excellent wear resistance, and impressive heat resistance. Ideal for complex geometries and technical applications, PA 6 offers reliable performance in demanding environments.

Polyethylene (PE)

Polyethylene (PE) is the most widely used plastic in the world, produced by the polymerisation of ethylene molecules. Its wide availability, low production costs and versatile properties such as durability and chemical resistance make PE an extremely popular plastic in various industries. Its resistance to the new HVO fuels has also been proven.

Polyamide 11 (PA 11)

PA11, also known as nylon 11, impresses with its outstanding flexibility, high impact strength, and excellent resistance to chemicals and UV radiation. This makes it perfect for applications in the automotive, electronics, and sporting goods industries.

Polypropylene (PP)

Polypropylene (PP) is characterised by its high resistance to chemicals, low density and excellent fatigue resistance. It is also very dimensionally stable, moisture-repellent and offers a good balance between rigidity and flexibility.

Polyamide 12 (PA 12)

Polyamide 12 is a thermoplastic that offers excellent chemical resistance, low water absorption and exceptional flexibility. Its reliable performance and durability make it ideal for demanding applications.

Cross-linked polyethylene (XPE)

XPE impresses with its excellent thermal and sound insulation, high dimensional stability and water resistance. Thanks to its closed-cell structure, it is ideal for applications in the automotive, construction and packaging industries.

New approaches in container development

Identifying challenges, finding solutions: with our expertise and experience, we are the experts in the field of container development and manufacture. Internal innovation, development and design teams work together on various challenges to solve specific problems. The topics range from material development to technical issues.

Pflanze entsteht

Bio-based plastics

Sustainability is a top priority at Elkamet, which is why we naturally also focus on the resources we use so that we can offer our customers environmentally friendly alternatives.

For example, the plastic PA 11 is made from renewable raw materials.

In-situ polymerisation (T-RTM)

Recyclable fibre composite components using the RTM process? It's possible with in-situ polymerisation.
